We are pleased to announce that attendees of LoreCon (which takes place August 20th in Philadelphia, PA) will get an exclusive opportunity to sample a playable beta of the Milestone 1 release for Realm Wars 2. This is the only planned preview of Realm Wars that will be released for the next month or two so don't miss your opportunity to play it and may other great games.

Hi Magnus. RW2 is still a number of months away from an official "final" release state, which is Milestone 3 or 4 on our list.

This beta is of Milestone 1, which was the goal to make a solid Fantasy themed FPS game and ensure that there is a solid foundation to build from (as opposed to the older RW1 builds which weren't even half complete at best).
I will compile a full list of new features & changes in a day or two so that everyone can get an idea on the amount of work that was done.

As for when the general public will get a chance to sample this. We are still deciding how we want to run the beta, but it will likely be controlled with a limited number of accounts being added each new release we do. I don't have any firm dates locked in for this yet though as it could take anywhere from 2 to 6 weeks after LoreCon.

The bare minimum we will be recommending at this time is a P3-866mhz w/ 256mb RAM and a Radeon 7000 card (which is what one of the test machines here is running), this will give you a rough but playable 14 to 24fps.

As for new races, no sorry nothing yet. There is one or two new races on the drawing board but they aren't in this build as we felt that they were not necessary to create a fun FPS product with Milestone 1.

yeah will server creating be easier and more manual or will it be like it's current mission creator.

One of the things that we are bringing in from our previous product that we developed, Dark Horizons Lore Invasion, is our lobby system.

I will assume that you haven't tried out Lore Invasion before so I will quickly summarize the lobby that we used in Lore. The basic premise here was to tie in the ability to chat with other players via an in-game IRC implementation with the ability to search through various server lists, player stats, etc. It was all very seamless and easy to work with so creating or finding a game or players was painless.

Obviously since it worked so well its one of the things that we are in the process of adding and revamping for the RW needs.

Yeah, would be nice to keep it going. A lot of us still play on the older version. =D

I believe the master server is hosted by GarageGames.com so as long as they keep that server up and running it should be AOK to play RW1. The only hitch that you guys might encounter (which you have probably seen a few times in the past already) is when that server goes down (which is quite regularily), it's technicly not supposed to be used for releases so there usually isn't anyone keeping a watchful eye on its status.

Note: With Realm Wars 2 there will be two master servers to provide redundency. One that we will be hosting and of course the garagegames.com backup.

I hope that answers your questions guys.

Sorry for not updating you guys. Adrian and Tim showed the game off at LoreCon and the guys there were pretty impressed with it and wanted more time to play with it.

On the plus side we did get a nice feedback list and some bugs to fix and the team has moved back on track towards Milestone 1 completion.
